FIRST STRONGHOLD is played by two alliances of three teams each. Alliances compete against each other to breach their opponents’ defenses, known as outer works, and capture their tower. They score points by crossing elements of their opponents’ outer works, scoring boulders in their opponents’ tower goals, and surrounding and scaling their opponents’ tower itself.

In the 2016 season, the RoboHawks had a record year. Beginning with a win at the Southwest Virginia District Event, to being finalists at the Chesapeake District Champs, our robot rocked the field. Not only that, but we won the Safety Award for the second year in a row, the Quality Award, Engineering Inspiration Award, and the Gracious Professionalism Award. All of this resulted in Team 346 going to the FIRST World Championship for the first time since 2009. We ended as ranked 3rd in the Chesapeake District and semifinalists on Hopper field at the World Championship.
